The Maestranza begins November strongly with one of Vincenzo Bellini’s most popular lyrical tragedies, Norma. It is considered one of the most mythical and moving works because it contains Casta Diva, one of the best-known arias of the 19th century lyrical repertoire. This groundbreaking work, a pioneer of the bel canto tradition, revolves around the conflict between the love felt by the priestess Norma for her beloved Pollione and the jealousy that torments her because of Adalgisa. The production will be developed under the direction of maestro Yves Abel and stage director Nicola Berloffa, with Yolanda Auyanet, Francesco Demuro, Raffaella Lupinacci and Rubén Amoretti. On 13 November, Stacey Kent comes to the Teatro de la Maestranza loaded with saxophones, flutes and piano and will delight audiences with her warm and velvety voice. On this occasion, the international artist comes to present her latest album created together with Art Hirahara, Songs From Other Places, which reflects on the concept of belonging and the influential power of travel. The nostalgic tone, tuned with the joy that emanates from the singer’s voice, will manage to encourage and comfort the hearts of listeners. Classicism and top-level orchestra at the Maestranza.
The brilliant Mahler Chamber Orchestra will come to Seville on 26 November to offer a return to classicism under the baton of Italian conductor Daniele Gatti. Principal conductor of the Zurich Opera, the Orchestre National de France and the Concertgebouw. The orchestra will begin with the cheerful and energetic Classical Symphony (1918), one of Sergei Prokofiev’s most popular works. Then Symphony Concertante Hob 1/105 (1792) by Joseph Haydn, which will seek to colour the Maestranza with more playful and burlesque accents. And finally, the Symphony in C major (1940) by Igor Stravinsky, whose fast-paced and graceful rhythms will make the ending of this orchestra electrifying. December opens with Dance.
On 1 and 2 December, the National Ballet of Spain (BNE) will set the Maestranza stage alight with an original show inspired by fashion photographer Ruvén Afanador’s unique and distinctive vision of flamenco. Marcos Morau is the choreographer of the BNE and director of La Veronal. Enchanted by the “direct and piercing” language of Afanador’s images, he nourishes his creativity to create a flamenco choreography that blends tradition and avant-garde. He sketches a beauty of light and shadow, with the aim of revealing to the audience new ways and essences of experiencing contemporaneity, movement, and flamenco. The day of 4 December will be filled with talent. On the one hand, the 3rd Season of Rasgando el Silencio.
