The best places to eat in Fuengirola all year round

With the Costa del Sol as its backdrop, Fuengirola is one of Spain’s most attractive tourist destinations. Spaniards and international visitors enjoy this Málaga paradise all year round. And eating in Fuengirola — at one of its many restaurants — is another great reason to enjoy the town not only in summer, but also in the low season. Above all, thanks to its sunny climate and temperatures that hardly drop below 20°C as a maximum throughout the year.

Whether you’re out for tapas or enjoying a hearty meal in one of its many restaurants, Fuengirola offers a wide range of options. And one of the star choices is to try its famous espetos.

Tapas in Fuengirola

The most affordable way to eat in Fuengirola is to go out for tapas. And Tánicos is one of the best places for that. Right in the centre, between the Seafront Promenade and Plaza del Ayuntamiento, you’ll find this spot where you can enjoy great croquettes or a variety of meats and fish.

On the other side of the Marina, on Avenida Nuestro Padre Jesús Cautivo, you’ll find Bar Los Jabegotes. Its affordable prices will surprise you just as much as the quality of its seafood and fresh fish.

Just a few metres away is Taberna La Abuela, next to Los Boliches beach. Popular prices and generous portions, plus several types of sandwiches and cold tapas, make this place an ideal spot to eat in Fuengirola.

But if there’s one tapas bar that takes the crown, it’s Tomaquet. A classic, no-nonsense tapas bar where you can enjoy traditional Mediterranean tapas at good prices — all washed down with a nice wine or sangria and surrounded by attractive décor. It’s on Calle Palangreros, next to the Marina.

Restaurants in Fuengirola

On the other hand, if what we want is to sit down at a good table and treat ourselves a bit, there are plenty of options right in Fuengirola’s centre. Like Restaurante Picoteo, where the star is chic Mediterranean food and its quirky décor — and where many dishes come as tapas or as half/full portions. The menu will leave you wanting to come back, because there’s so much to choose from: meats, foie gras, rice dishes, pasta, fish, breads, tartare, seafood… or its variety of slow-cooked products at 180 degrees, such as Burgos black pudding with apple purée, kataifi prawns, or crispy prawn bites. restaurantes-en-fuengirola-picoteo.jpg

Another great place to enjoy good food in Fuengirola is Bodega Charolais, on Calle Larga. Still in the Marina area and with the sea less than 100 metres away, this place stands out above all for its extensive wine and sparkling list: cavas, rosés, sweet wines and wines from all over Spain will delight wine lovers. Perfect for pairing with its Basque-Andalusian dishes on the terrace or inside the restaurant.

Espetos, the best thing to eat in Fuengirola

But if there’s one star dish in Fuengirola, it’s sardine espetos. A small boat half-buried in the sand and a bit of charcoal are enough to create this delicious bite that’s typical of Fuengirola’s beach bars. And not only in summer: around the Marina there are many of these places that are open from January to December. Los Náufragos, Gali Gali, Juan Blanco or La Caracola are good examples.
