The Velá de Triana returns to Seville’s most iconic neighbourhood
After a two-year pause due to the pandemic, Calle Betis — the most visited street in Seville’s Triana neighbourhood — will once again be filled with lights, festivities and lanterns. La Velá de Triana, the main celebration of this Seville district, will take place from 21 to 26 July. A wide range of activities will go hand in hand with the leisure and entertainment on offer during these special days.
Plaza del Altozano will be another key spot for the festival, as that’s where the opening speech will take place on Thursday 21, delivered by professor Reyes Robledo — the official kickoff to the celebrations. On the remaining nights, this area will host the main musical performances, with flamenco as the star of the show.
Festival in honour of Saint James and Saint Anne
These patron saint festivities are held in honour of Saint James’ name day on 25 July and Saint Anne’s on 26 July. On those days, there will be the floral offering and the traditional besamanos (hand-kissing ceremony) to the image of Saint Anne, which is kept in the parish church of the same name in the very heart of the neighbourhood.
Alongside these main events, La Velá de Triana will also feature regattas, competitions, sports and children’s activities… And, as always, the traditional cucaña couldn’t be missing: the bravest youngsters attempt to cross a greasy mast tied to a boat, with the goal of grabbing the flag placed at the end. It takes place every day from 6:30 pm on the Guadalquivir River, next to Calle Betis.
A reunion in Triana
These are days when Triana locals gather around the stalls that line Calle Betis, where great food, dancing and fun are guaranteed. They’re also days when people from outside the neighbourhood come back to reconnect with their old barrio — or simply hop in the car to head to the Velá de Triana, drawn by the promise of a good time in the best atmosphere.

That’s why it’s important to have a good place to park in mind and not waste precious fun time driving around in a neighbourhood that’s already difficult to park in. The Mercado de Triana car park, managed by APPARKYA, will be closed during these days, so the most viable option is to leave your car on the other side of the river.
