Things you didn’t know about 4 beach holiday destinations
Do you know one of the best dog-friendly beaches in Spain? Do you know what urta is and the festival held around it? Before setting off for our beach holiday destinations, we like to know everything about the place we are going to visit. There is a great deal of information available about the many destinations we can visit along Spain’s 8,000 kilometres of coastline.
But we do not always dig deep into the information, and we miss out on discovering real gems that not everyone knows about. That is why today we are going to tell you about things you may not have known about four holiday destinations where APPARKYA is present.
Beach holidays with APPARKYA
There are four coastal cities where APPARKYA offers its services. All of them are located in Andalusia, between Cádiz and Málaga. In regulated parking in Chiclana de la Frontera we manage regulated parking areas, while in Fuengirola we have the Paseo Marítimo car park, on the seafront of San Francisco Beach and next to the Marina. Both services can be managed with our Apparkya app, which can also be used to obtain a regulated parking ticket in Rota. In addition, we operate in San Fernando, where we offer our tow truck service.
San Fernando and its dog-friendly beach
San Fernando, just a few kilometres from Cádiz, is not a coastal city in itself, but it does have municipal land on the coastline. A disadvantage that becomes an advantage when you discover its secluded coastlines and dog-friendly beaches in the heart of the Bahía de Cádiz Natural Park. Although they are not located in an urban area, they are well connected and have easy access so you can enjoy a well-deserved beach holiday.
The well-known Punta del Boquerón belongs to this town in Cádiz. It is a beautiful spot formed by a spit of land surrounded by marshes and scrubland. It can be reached via an easy-access natural trail of only 2.5 kilometres. From there, you can enjoy unique sunsets with views of the Sancti Petri Castle.
Next to this trail is also one of the best dog-friendly beaches. It is a stretch of Camposoto Beach. It can be accessed via a wooden walkway just over one kilometre long starting from the parking area. After this walk through the dunes, you can enjoy a swim with your pets on one of the few dog-friendly beaches in Spain.

Chiclana de la Frontera, more than just a beach holiday
This town, also in Cádiz, can boast having some of the best beaches in Spain. Sancti Petri and La Barrosa are examples of this. But Chiclana is more than just a beach holiday destination.
For lovers of great views, a visit to the Santa Ana Hermitage is essential. Thanks to its privileged position, it is possible to contemplate the whole Bay of Cádiz from its viewpoint. Its interior can be visited every Tuesday and on 26 July, the feast day of Saint Anne. There, visitors can discover a little piece of Chiclana’s history during the French occupation.
Another place not so well known by tourists is Pinar de Hierro, on the outskirts of the town, which becomes a perfect place for walking or doing outdoor sports. It is also recommended to visit the many wineries in Chiclana, some of them with their own bars where you can taste the fino and oloroso wines typical of this land.

###The Urta Festival in Rota We remain in Cádiz to now talk about one of the most characteristic festivals in this province. The Urta Festival, declared of National Tourist Interest, which this year is held from 4 to 8 August. A festival with musical performances and stalls that revolves around the preparation of the most typical dish of this municipality: urta a la roteña, a rockfish typical of the Cádiz coast that the people of Rota prepare with vegetable ratatouille and sherry wine.
Fuengirola, plenty to choose from In addition to the well-known offer of beach holidays and nightlife, this gem on Málaga’s Costa del Sol hides unique corners that are also worth exploring. Such as Sohail Castle, at the southern end of the city. This building of Muslim origin stands on a hill that offers excellent views. It can be reached on foot in about 30 minutes along the promenade if you access it from the Marina, where the APPARKYA Paseo Marítimo car park is located.
Another building also worth visiting is the Colomares Castle Monument. An unmatched privately built structure in honour of Christopher Columbus. It tells the story of the discovery of America, and its uniqueness lies in the mixture of different architectural styles. To get there, you will need to take the car, as it is about 15 minutes away if you set off from the Marina.
It is worth noting that Fuengirola also has one of the dog-friendly beaches in Spain. It is located somewhat far from the centre, about ten minutes away by car, on the southern boundary of the municipality. Access is properly signposted and breeds classified as potentially dangerous are not allowed.
