7 plans to enjoy Seville in summer

Contrary to what many people think, visiting Seville in summer can be a fantastic idea despite the heat. Yes, temperatures are very high, which is why, from a tourism point of view, the capital of Andalusia is in low season and accommodation prices are cheaper compared to other times of the year. In addition, for the same reason, there are fewer tourists, so if you do not mind being a little hot, it is a great opportunity to discover everything that is considered one of the most beautiful cities, not only in our country, but in the whole world, has to offer.

What to do in Seville in summer

Before we look at what to do in Seville in summer, let us tell you that if you decide to visit, you should bear in mind that temperatures are high (it is not unusual to reach 40 °C, with high humidity due to the Guadalquivir), but who said fear? With a good hat and proper hydration, it is absolutely worth it, because the beauty of Seville in the summer light is something that should be seen at least once in a lifetime.

Since we know the plan will sound very appealing to you, let us get straight to where to go in Seville in summer if you are visiting or spending a few days there. Let’s begin!

1. Visit the Santa Cruz neighbourhood

The Santa Cruz neighbourhood is one of Seville’s most iconic areas. Its narrow streets and stately houses make it an incomparable setting of beauty and a silent witness to the history of this splendid city. The network of streets in the old Jewish quarter creates an ideal setting for Seville in summer, thanks to the large shaded areas, the abundant greenery in the courtyards and the many fountains it has.

2. Triana and San Jorge Castle

If Santa Cruz is a must-see in Seville in summer, Triana is no less so. Located on the other side of the Guadalquivir, this neighbourhood offers the typical atmosphere of Sevillian essence. Once you cross the bridge that shares the neighbourhood’s name, you arrive at Altozano square, where its market is built on top of the ruins of San Jorge Castle, which was the headquarters of the Inquisition from 1481. Getting there is very easy, and you can also go by car and leave it in one of our fantastic car parks to visit the area with complete peace of mind.

Triana is known for its «tapeo», where you can enjoy typical Sevillian tapas washed down with a good manzanilla wine, along streets as iconic as Betis street, running parallel to the Guadalquivir, or Pureza street, where the chapel of Esperanza Trianera is located, a must-visit place for all those who love Holy Week.

3. Theatrical night tour of the Real Alcázar

If seeing the Real Alcázar is already a luxury in itself, seeing it at night and being shown around by historical figures such as Isabella the Catholic or Peter I is a true spectacle. It feels like travelling back in time while discovering the city’s history, while enjoying a night-time tour through all its rooms and gardens. Something totally recommended and very pleasant to do on a Sevillian night.

4. Walk along the Guadalquivir at sunset

Although the typical tourist thing to do is take a boat trip along the Guadalquivir, walking along its banks is something you should not miss, because you can enjoy it in a different way. Its most recommended route is the one that goes from María Luisa Park to the Torre del Oro. And if you do it in the afternoon, you can enjoy the breeze from the river and the wonderful sunset that can be seen, admiring the changing tones of the sky together with the lighting of its most iconic bridges and forgetting about the heat of Seville in summer.

5. Visit Isla Mágica

For lovers of strong emotions, the water park at Isla Mágica is a great option to cool off in summer. It is themed around the Discovery of America and has several themed areas with attractions for all tastes. Perfect for fun and for beating the summer heat.

6. Visit the Aquarium

If Seville Aquarium is an excellent option at any time of year, in summer it is much more pleasant thanks to the excellent air conditioning it offers visitors. Inspired by Magellan’s voyages, it allows you to see a large number of marine species while exploring all its different areas. Perfect for going with children.

7. Leisure and gastronomy

There is nothing better than something fresh and healthy to beat the summer heat. We cannot forget Seville’s great range of leisure options and its gastronomy. From its «pescaíto frito», which can be enjoyed while strolling through the city, to the countless bars, taverns and restaurants that the Andalusian capital offers. «Tapeo» in Seville is very typical and varied, and enjoying it during the day in the shelter of air conditioning is the best way to fight the heat.

And for those who enjoy nightlife, there is a wide range of cocktail bars and rooftops where you can enjoy a refreshing drink at night while admiring Seville’s skyline with its Giralda and Torre del Oro, eternal symbols of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Seville in summer is unmatched, and it is waiting for you!

What to see in Seville in one day

If you are still not sure what to see in Seville, here is a summary of the essentials to see in Seville in one day. Although Seville city centre is more or less manageable in a day, it is impossible to fully get to know its history, customs and culture.

Also, if you are coming by car, we recommend not entering the city centre without having reserved a parking space. The streets in the centre are winding, narrow and some are dead ends, so it is easy to get lost and drive around in circles if you do not know the area well.
