The Alhambra, the Generalife, Sacromonte, Albaicín… Yes, you guessed it, today we are talking about Granada, and if you are planning to visit it, all of these places are absolute must-sees. But at Apparkya we want to offer you a different view of the Nasrid capital, so if you are one of those who love charming hidden corners, we are going to suggest the most spectacular ones so that your experience in Granada is second to none.

The most original corners and neighbourhoods of Granada

If you are wondering what to see in Granada, we have to tell you that there are so many places to admire. In fact, we already talked about the essentials to see in Granada in one day see Granada in one day. So we have decided to suggest certain options that are «a little out of the ordinary», little corners where you can get lost and capture snapshots that will complement the city’s best-known sights and, at the same time, add a personal touch and make your trip an unforgettable experience.

The best way to look for charming hidden corners is to find a place to leave your car, and fortunately, you can leave it in our Hermanos Maristas car park, right in the city centre, and from there head towards our recommendations. Shall we begin?

1. La Alcaicería of Granada

La Alcaicería is an Arab souk located in the very centre of Granada that transports its visitors straight to Tunisia. This historic place, which today can be admired in all its splendour, was where silk trading took place, one of the city’s most important economic activities. The smell of spices, colour and exoticism make it a perfect place to get lost and take the best snapshots of our trip.

2. Washhouse of Placeta de la Puerta del Sol

This washhouse, dating back to the 17th century, is located at the foot of the Torres Bermejas, between the neighbourhoods of Realejo and El Mauror. It is one of the most unknown corners of Granada, as it is not signposted, but it is located in the upper part of the city, very close to Puerta del Sol, where it is possible to enjoy a perfect panoramic view of the city’s monuments.

3. Viewpoint of Placeta de Carvajales

On our travels, a viewpoint where we can take the best photos of the surroundings cannot be missing. And the one at Placeta de Carvajales has all the requirements for that, as it is a hidden and intimate place that offers different perspectives of Granada. Located in the lower Albaicín, it is a place of incomparable beauty, where its benches, trees and pool transport us back to the Nasrid period.

4. Puerta de Elvira

The Elvira Arch was the main entrance to the city during the period of Islamic rule. Built in the 11th century, its horseshoe arch from the Nasrid era and its battlements can still be admired today. What is interesting about this spot is that in the same place you can observe an architectural blend of Arab and Christian styles, as it was remodelled during Charles I’s visit to Granada in the 16th century to commemorate the Emperor’s triumphant entry into the city.

5. Paseo de los Tristes

Considered one of the most beautiful streets in our country, it is located in the Darro Valley, between the hills of Albaicín and the Alhambra. Officially, it is called Paseo del Padre Majón and popularly known as Paseo de los Tristes, because it is next to the San José cemetery and used to be the usual route for funeral processions. Nowadays, it is possibly one of the happiest streets in Granada, thanks to the wonderful walk alongside the Darro River and the many terraces where you can enjoy a good wine and the famous tapas of Granada.

6. Paseo de la Bicha

Surrounded by nature, it is perfect for enjoying a lovely family walk and taking photos of its beautiful surroundings. It has areas for exercising as well as places to rest, and, like everything in Granada, it also has its own little piece of history, as this is where the famous Casa de las Gallinas once stood, a fortified residence belonging to Nasrid royalty.

7. Sacromonte

Yes, we are aware that we had promised not to talk about the most visited corners of Granada, but this neighbourhood is absolutely «unmissable» if we are fortunate enough to see this city. Located opposite the Alhambra, which can be admired here in all its splendour, it is a network of steep narrow streets surrounded by whitewashed houses and caves, inhabited by the Roma population for centuries.

Visiting Sacromonte is not only essential because of the neighbourhood itself, but also because there are many emblematic places to see there. The Cave Museum or the 17th-century abbey are some examples, in addition to the many restaurants and traditional taverns where you can enjoy the best local gastronomy and watch flamenco shows at night.

We could go on and on, because there are many charming hidden corners in Granada. We have done our bit to help make your visit personal and unforgettable in one of the best settings in the world. Enjoy!
